We offer a structured environment which follows a clock, as routine makes children feel secure.

activities

Each day the children have a discipline which is structured and physical: dance, yoga, etc. We spend two periods per day outdoors whether on excursions or playing and gardening in our own garden. During the day we have lots of free workshop time where the children can play in groups or by themselves, with all that their classroom has to offer: sorting beads, reading books, doing puzzles, playing dress-up or sculpting with modeling clay, etc.

We also spend time teaching children how to care for their school. Serving snacks, clearing the table and cleaning up after meals, personal hygiene, watering and talking to the plants, recycling, pushing in chairs, closing doors quietly, and also distributing mail that they write to one another or to the grown-ups, as well as writing for the emotion box. There are so many chores that children love to do: doing poosh-poosh on the tables with vinegar and water, passing the mini Dirt Devil across the floor, sweeping, organizing the art materials and books, fluffing the floor pillows (after jumping around on them for a a bit).

Our job as educators is not to make a child’s life easier, but to make children succeed in the real world that surrounds them; there is no need to use a book to learn to tie shoe laces when there are two perfectly good shoes at the ends of their legs. We take the time with the children to tie laces, to toilet-train, and to learn other life skills.

Throughout the day, there are two healthy snacks and a hot lunch, not to mention a good nap in the afternoon. There are many things to do every day, so we ensure rest, food, fun and laughter. We ensure free time so that the children have time each day to explore and express their individuality. Their uniqueness shines when they are given a little time to do what they want to do.
